32nd Offshore Licensing Round Awards

September 9, 2020

Summit Exploration and Production is pleased to announce the provisional award of five new exploration licences covering twelve blocks on the UK Continental Shelf in the 32nd Offshore Licensing Round

This award is Summit’s most successful result from a Licensing Round, providing a welcome boost to our exploration portfolio and demonstrating our commitment to growing our UK business organically, as well as by acquisition.  The company looks to continue contributing towards MER UK by providing domestic UK energy security that is significantly greener and cleaner than imported supplies.  In this regard all of the awards have specifically targeted low carbon intensity resources, which will reduce both upstream and downstream emissions associated with energy supply. Summit will also be working closely with its parent company Sumitomo Corporation’s expertise, together with sister Sumitomo subsidiaries, in further advancing the development of hydrogen production associated with carbon capture technologies as a viable and economic resource in-line with the wider UK industry commitment to meet net-zero by 2050.  Summit operates two of the licences, building on its success as Exploration Operator in drilling successful UKCS exploration and appraisal wells in the past.  Tangram Energy operates three of the licenses, with Summit holding 40% equity.
